October 21 at La Cocina

Hey folks!  Hope all is well.  Just wanted to remind you that the Maxwells will be performing this Saturday night at La Cocina from 7:00-9:30 PM.  This is a great venue.  We hope you can make it.  Hell, we're getting two rehearsals in and our brilliant bassist, Karl Hoffmann, is gonna sing a song.  If that's not reason enough......  Also, I've added two new songs to the web page: our latest CDs opening track Breakaway and Old Shoes.  Allan sings Old Shoes and the great Danny Krieger plays some incredible lead guitar.  Check it out.  Thanks for your continued support and we'll see you at La Cocina.

TKMA Folk Festival Fundraiser

Hey Folks!  Performing solo at Mercado San Agustin Friday night at 8:40.  Big fundraiser for the Folk Festival.  Gotta admit I'm a little nervous playing without the fellas but I've been practicing and I'm happy to help the cause.  Check out the nylon string version of "Dark End of the Bar" I just added to the site to hopefully put you in the acoustic mood.  Would love to see you there.  Below is a link with more details.

Thanks, Neil

This Friday night at Monterey Court

Hey Folks!  Just a quick reminder about the Mighty Maxwells gig this Friday night at Monterey Court.  We'll be playing from about 6-8 followed by Still Life Telescope from about 8-10.  Gonna be a great show!  Monterey Court has a beautiful outdoor stage, good food and a full bar.  Hope to see you there.  We're rehearsing tomorrow so we'll be ready to go.  Thanks for supporting local music.

New Song!

Hey Folks!  Just wanted to let you know I added a new song to the site.  It's called "Make You Wanna Scream".  It features a guest appearance by Tucson guitar legend Danny Kreiger.  Give it a listen.

Also, I want to remind you of our gig at Monterey Court, Friday night, July 28.  We'll play from about 6-8 and a band called Still Life Telescope will perform from about 8-10.  Hope to see you there.

Monterey Court, Friday, July 28

Hey Folks!  Hope all is well.  Thanks for your support last week at La Cocina.  We had a great gig and we'll be back there in October.  The Maxwells next appearance will be Friday, September 28th at Monterey Court.  We'll be splitting the evening with a band called Still Life Telescope.  They will be celebrating the release of a new CD.  We'll play from about 6-8 and they'll go from about 8-10.  Put that on your calendars now.

I also wanted to let you know that I'll be filling in on bass again for Nancy McCallion and the Scarlet Lettermen this Saturday, July 1, at The Flycatcher from 6-8.  C'mon out and support us.

One more thing.  We get a ton of hits every month at this website but no one ever writes us a note.  We'd love to hear from you.  Did you know the Republic of Czechoslovakia is the number one most frequent, non US, country to visit this site?  I'd be thrilled to get an email from the Czech Republic.

Thanks again, everyone, for your support.

La Cocina Saturday 6/17

Hey Folks!  Just wanted to let you know that The Mighty Maxwells will be performing this Saturday night at La Cocina from 7:00-9:30 pm.  Can't wait to get back together with the fellas.  It's been a while.  Hell, we've scheduled a rehearsal and everything.  Rumor has it Allan could be covering Teenage Dirtbag.  Is that possible.  You'll have to come to find out.  We'd love to see you there.  Thanks for supporting local music.

More gigs!

Hey Folks!  Well, Nancy's putting me to work again this week.  This Tuesday night, June 6, I'll be joining her and Heather Hardy at Monterey Court from 6:30-9:30.  It's supposed to be Danny Kreiger but he had to leave town on short notice so I'll be trying to fill in.  And, of course, no one can fill in for Danny but I'll down a few beers and give it a whirl.  Then, on Friday, June 9th, I'll be playing bass with Nancy and The Scarlet Lettermen.  That's at The Flycatcher on the southwest corner of 6th St. and 4th Ave. from 5:30-7:30.  A Friday after work happy hour.  What could be better?

And while I'm here I must remind you of the upcoming Mighty Maxwells gig.  We'll be playing Saturday, June 17th, at La Cocina from 7-9:30 pm.  More to come next week.

Hope to see you at one or all these gigs.  Make sure you say hello.

Gigs

Hey Folks!  The Folk Festival was great fun.  Thank you for your support.  I wanted to let you know about a few things I'll be doing as well as the band.  Next Tuesday, May 23,  I'll be playing at Monterey Court from 6:30-9:30 with my sister Nancy McCallion of Scarlet Lettermen and Mollies fame.  It'll be acoustic, mostly originals.  Then Friday, May 26, I'll be joining those same Scarlet Lettermen on bass at Murphys Public House.  Murphy's is on the southwest corner of Kolb and Broadway.  We'll start at 9 pm.  Karl will be off playing with The Stones or something so I got the call.  It'll be fun and nerve wracking.  And finally, last but not least, our own Mighty Maxwells will be playing June 17 al La Cocina.  Mark your calendars.  We'll play from 7-9:30.  Can't wait.  La Cocina's a great venue.  Hope to see you soon  Thanks for supporting live music!

Tucson Folk Festival

Hey Folks!  I hope all is well.  The Tucson Folk Festival is upon us once again.  We'll be performing Saturday, May 6th, at 5:00 pm. on the La Cocina stage.  We're thrilled.  La Cocina is my favorite FF venue:  it's intimate, shaded and most importantly has a bar.  Now there will be music going on simultaneously on four other stages.  Same again on Sunday.  Music starts at 11:00 am. both days and goes well into the evening.  Headliners include The Black Lillies, Ryanhood and Billy Jonas.  Here's the Folk Festival email address so you can check out the schedule:http://www.tucsonfolkfest.org/folk-festival/.

Some Gigs!

Hello Folks!  Hope all is well.  Can't believe it's 2017.  Got some gigs coming up.  The Maxwells are playing Friday, February 3rd, at Monterey Court.  We'll get on stage about 8:00 pm.  Karl Hoffmann will once again be playing bass.  A band called Dash Pocket will start the evening around 6 pm.  I've been told they have a folksy alt. country sound and play some originals.  Here's their reverbnation site: https://www.reverbnation.com/dashpocket.  I'm also gonna be filling in on bass for The Scarlet Lettermen on Feb 14 and doing an acoustic duo gig with Nancy McCallion on Feb. 28, both at Monterey Court.  Details to follow.

Recently saw Dave Alvin and Jimmy Dale Gilmore here in Tucson and got tickets to an upcoming X show.  Gotta keep supporting that live music.

Oh No

Hi folks!  Hope you all have recovered from the madness that was the election.  I have not; think I'll start our next gig with the title track of our first album "Oh No".  Speaking of next gig, we're playing at Monterey Court on Friday, November 25th with Tucson veteran Tommy Tucker and a band called Quarter Royale.  We'll be celebrating Monterey Court's fifth anniversary.  Should be fun.  Karl Hoffmann will be back on bass as Jack has made his way back to Ohio.  I'm looking forward to it.  We'll get a rehearsal in this week and I'll undoubtedly mess up our cover of Sgt. Pepper while Allan's trying to sing.  Course he'll forget the words to all my songs so we'll be even.  Great Maxwellian fun.  Hope to see you at the gig.

CDs, gigs and long lost friends.

Well, we've finally finished our new CD.  It's titled "Slippin' Away".  It features ten original songs as well as guest performances by guitarist and Tucson legend Danny Kreiger, Mickey G. Williams on pedal steel and Duncan Stitt on keyboards.  Duncan also engineered and mixed the project at his A Writer's Room Studio.  We're having our CD release party at La Cocina on Saturday, Oct. 29.  Nancy McCallion and The Scarlett Lettermen will also perform.  I'm thrilled to report that Jack Fandray, our original bassist, will be flying in from Ohio for the weekend to see if he remembers any of the songs.  Should be fun.  Also, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, I'll be performing a duo gig with Nancy at Monterey Court.  It'll be an evening of original music starting at 6:30.  Hope you can make these live events and thank you for supporting live music in Tucson.
